Change is in the air ...

The Vermont Flight Academy was created to promote general aviation through a program of high-quality flight training provided at a competitive cost. Organzied as a non-profit 501(3)c corporation, we focus on flight training as an educational process in every sense of the word. This can only be accomplished through a dedicated program that emphasizes all areas of flight training, beginning with fundamental aviation knowledge and applying that knowledge to the teaching of flying skills.

VFA was recently approved as an FAR part 141 Pilot School. With this approval we are able to offer a standardized flight training program with educational and economic benefits to our students. Additionally, we plan to develop a 4-year Professional Pilot degree program in affiliation with Vermont Technical College. Beyond these formalized offerings, VFA also offers FAR part 61 flight training. Our full curriculum includes training in tailwheel aircraft and seaplanes. We will also offer training in advanced simulators and gliders in the coming year.

Whether you plan to become a professional pilot or simply want to fly for fun as a Private Pilot or Sport Pilot, we will provide the aircraft and training to accomplish you goals. If you already fly, contact us today about adding a tailwheel signoff or getting your seaplane rating this summer (both single- and multi-engine)!

We have a team of instructors with many years of flying experience and dedication to teaching. A common teaching format and curriculum provides continuity and efficiency throughout the program. Our Chief Flight Instructor, Doug Smith, has been an airline captain and flight instructor for over 30 years and is highly committed to customer satisfaction and the success of the program. Additionally, the other instructors on our staff offer a wide variety of backgrounds and specialities to add to your flight training experience.

Change is truly in the air. Join us in this exciting process.

Vermont Flight Academy is based in northern Vermont with facilities and aircraft at Burlington International Airport (KBTV) and Alburg Northern Lights (VT46, private) airport.
